What a day! We were determined to get to Pearl Harbor so we woke up at 5:45 and got on the bus at 6:20. We got to Pearl Harbor and in line by 7:30.
Wow, yes what an early morning. We were hoping and praying that we got up in time to get our tickets and thank goodness we got tickets for 12:15. Well we had 5 hours left before our tour so we decided to head to Chinatown in the morning. We hoped that there would be people running around early in the morning. We were in luck; in fact I think the market was more crowded as people bought vegetables and all types of meats. We grabbed some breakfast which felt more like lunch to us because it was soup and pork.
We passed the meat markets. Yes that is a pig’s head. After walking Chinatown for a while we headed back to Pearl Harbor. We still had 2 hours left so I took a nap on a bench waiting for our tour. Finally it was 12:15. We watched a very neutral video on why Pearl Harbor was attacked and then headed to the memorial on a boat. The memorial sits over the sunken Arizona where well over 1,000 men lost their lives on board. It was very peaceful and a nice place to reflect. It is funny what took probably 10 hours of waiting took less than 1 hour to complete. But it was worth it to see the ship. Back to Chinatown for dim sum for lunch. It was good but because we got there at an odd time we just chose what we wanted without them coming around on carts. After a long morning we needed time to rest and relax so we headed to the pool for a nap and relaxation. It is only 6:30 right now so I imagine we will venture back out and have dinner and enjoy the rest of the night.
